DCLM Daily Manna – Inexcusable Ingratitude

DCLM Daily MannaTopic: Inexcusable Ingratitude! [DCLM Daily Manna 2 July 2019 Daily Devotional]

Text: Numbers 11:1-9 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp” (Numbers 11:1).

MESSAGE:

It is the height of ungratefulness that man who has benefited immensely from the blessings of the Creator would look Him in the face and murmur that this same God has done him little or no good. Whereas lesser creatures, far less endowed, show forth gratitude to their Maker. The children of Israel and their ‘mixed multitude’ did not have fair attitude. They complained endlessly about the life they were having after centuries of bondage in Egypt. God had miraculously delivered them from the cruel hands of Pharaoh and their tormentors and was now leading them to the Promised Land under supernatural circumstances that guaranteed Angelic guidance, protection, victory in war, feeding and prosperity even when they were not engaged in business activities.

As grumbling instead of gratitude took hold of these descendants of Jacob, a quest for the past set in and brought them into a collision with God resulting in calamitous human losses. Spiritually also, they lost the joy of fellowship with God. When man refuses to rejoice for the good things he has received from the Lord, it implies a rejection of the Lord Himself along with all He stands for: the fulfilment and an enjoyment of His promises.

This compels us to express indescribable appreciation to God for loving us so much. Because of His love for us, He gave His Son that through His death at Calvary’s tree, those who had fallen from grace and were heading for eternal perdition should spend everlasting life in His kingdom. Believers must therefore rejoice more at this prospect than for any other worldly possession. In effect, there should be no sorrow or mourning for the genuine believer in the face of material lack.

Thought For The Day: Looking down on God’s gifts brings one down.
