DCLM Daily Manna 18 April 2022 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Price Of Foolishness

TOPIC: The Price Of Foolishness (DCLM Daily Manna 18 April 2022)

TEXT: Proverbs 18:1-17 (KJV)

1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

KEY VERSE: “A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.” – (Proverbs 18:7)

MESSAGE:

Someone wrote, “A little foolishness can override a lot of wisdom. You can make a hundred – a thousand – wise choices and decisions, and one foolish decision can undo them all and haunt you for the rest of your life. When it comes to foolishness, a little goes a long way. It can hijack your reputation and be the thing everyone remembers you for.”

Our passage reveals the impact of foolishness on people. Because fools do not seek understanding, they naturally become limited and disadvantaged. A major area where foolishness proves costly for many is in communication. A “fool’s mouth” can bring him strokes and ultimately serve as his destruction.

It is erroneous to think that only sinners can be foolish. Many so-called disciples today who are like the five foolish virgins. They miss the best of life, loose great opportunities and suffer unnecessary hardships. They also fail to make proper preparations for the coming of the Bridegroom. Some others are like the Galatian Christians. They run the Christian race with carnal methods. Paul was aware of this challenge and he warned the Ephesian Christians against “foolish talking” (Ephesians 5:4). He equally told Timothy to avoid foolish questions.

It takes true humility to enjoy the best of God’s provisions for daily living. We must make conscious effort to seek divine wisdom in order to please God and make the best of our gifts and talents. That is the way to enjoy our lives here and fulfil our mission. That is the way God wants His children to live. May you be one of God’s wise children today.
