Topic: The Valiant [DCLM Daily Manna 3 April 2019 Daily Devotional]
Text: Joshua 15:13-20 (KJV)
Key Verse: “And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak” (Joshua 15:14).
MESSAGE:
H.W. Longfellow was forth right when he said, “The heights that great men reached and kept were not achieved by sudden flight but while their companions slept, they were toiling upward in the night”. The ability to do great exploits resides in those who dare to be valiant for the Lord.
Caleb had been valiant and faithful from the beginning. He was faithful from the begining. He was one of the original twelve spies sent to the Promised Land. Then he saw the great cities and the giants (the Anakims) and yet he declared: “we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). As a result of his faith, God promised him a personal inheritance and fulfilled it, even after 45 years had passed. This shows God’s unfailing nature; whatever promises He had made regardless of time, He will surely fulfil it.
Caleb’s legacy of courage and faith was transferred to the next generation. His brother, Othniel also valiantly conquered Kirjath-sepher, became the first judge in Israel after the death of Joshua and God used him as a deliverer of His people from their enemies (Judges 3:9-11).
Caleb started, continued and ended valiantly. It is unfortunate today that many people started as valiant and faithful Christians but when the going got tough and tensed, they derailed. There are many lands yet to be conquered for the Lord; many souls still to win into God’s kingdom. We must become valiant and put on the fasting, agonising and prevailing prayers for this battle for souls of men. No matter how difficult or impenetrable our territories may seem, we must fight on for the battle is the Lord’s.
Thought For The Day: The valiant sees the end of the battle.
