[Music + Lyrics] Heaven – Alex Amos

Alex Amos - Heaven

SelahAfrik‘s head honcho, Alex Amos digs into a 10-year-old archive to deliver the Christian Hip Hop song titled “Heaven.” The song featuring the vocals of singer Tamara Ebidi, is a walk into the psyche of the average Nigerian youth, thrust into the socio-economic hardship that demarcates dreams from realities with a huge gap; put up against the backdrop of the Christian Faith.

Alex speaks of a place of escape where there are no guilt, regrets, struggles nor strive and compares such peace with what Heaven must be like. Having justified that Heaven is both a location and a state of mind, he breaks into worship as led by the voice of Tamara Ebidi.

“I wrote ‘Heaven’ at a time when I was trying to understand what true happiness really is. Is it the fulfillment of your dreams and aspirations? Is it the fulfillment of the purpose for which God put you on earth? Is it being able to secure a well paying job or just having enough money to live a good life? Or is happiness a by-product of joy, which is a state that defies the external factors, either good or bad. I tried to address these in the 3 verses of the song but I am leaving you to decide,” Alex Amos said.

The chorus of the song was adapted from the original song released in the early 90s, titled “Mimo” by The Choir, C&S Movement Church, Surulere District HQ (Ayo Ni O) as led by Pro. (Dr) Sunday Funso Korode. It was rearranged by popular producer Young D. The Trap music instrumentation was produced by Teekaywitty of Henrisoul‘s “Bad Man” fame.

Lyrics: Heaven By Alex Amos

Intro:
I had a dream last night God spoke to me)2x
(Imma tell you what He said real quick)

Verse 1:
He said happiness
That word is so underrated
But at times it can be so overrated
Livelihood
Means the hood where you are lively
Exist in your mind or the hood you inhabit
Means your job may not really make you happy
Especially if you make money through crime habit
State of mind
Come take a walk in mine
It’s Beautiful – Beautiful
Be-You-Till-Full
It’s beautiful making money off what you are build to do
You can be all you want to be don’t let no one belittle you
Get to you, get into you, Get into your head
Love is gonna get you, Yes! KRS said
Especially whhen you base success on material wealth
Had a dream last night but I wasnt close to sleep
I was wide awake, yet had a dream like Martin
Cos where my mind goes, it don’t go with my body

Bridge:
Must be what Heaven feels like
No guilt, no stress, just peace of mind
Must be what heaven feels like
No guilt, no stress, just peace, no strive
And I heard them singing

Chorus:
Won Korin mimo
Mimo, mimo
Mimo Lori ite
Olorun, orun aiyeraye

Verse 2:
Where my mind goes is far from JK
Where my mind goes, only I understand when I explain
Where my mind goes, from this world its lost
Come take a walk in the streets made from thoughts
Here I can escape, here my heart don’t hurt
Sky so blue I just soak up the sun
No 10 to 9 waiting for the next pay at my shop
I’m there when the hood wakes, I’m there when the doors are shut
The birds don’t sing no more in JK
It’s been replaced by hustle noise as buses take people away
Where are they going? When will they be back
When they get back will they come back with some cash
Or at least some happiness or next day repeat the past
It’s why, every day I leave too
But not on those buses
I go to a place with angels and winged horses
My pain and my joy, here finds justice

Bridge:
Must be what Heaven feels like
No guilt, no stress, just peace of mind
Must be what heaven feels like
No guilt, no stress, just peace, no strive
And I heard them singing

Chorus:
Won Korin mimo
Mimo, mimo
Mimo Lori ite
Olorun, orun aiyeraye

Verse 3:
Lord where am at is far from where I target
And where am at is far from where I started
But I ain’t gone trade value for music they can dance to
Maybe when I’m gone they’ll understand what I do
Cos for you, I’m a bury all my idols
All I once held there, all I gave life to
Know I’m a work in progress so this bible
Beyond the sky-cloud is where I look

Reprise:
Awon Agbagba merin lelogun
Won juba won yi itereka
Won ko mimo sio oluwa
Olorun orun aiyeraye

Bridge:
Must be what Heaven feels like
No guilt, no stress, just peace of mind
Must be what heaven feels like
No guilt, no stress, just peace, no strive
And I heard them singing

Chorus:
Won Korin mimo
Mimo, mimo
Mimo Lori ite
Olorun, orun aiyeraye

10. Way Maker [Cover] – Blessing Daniel

Way Maker [Cover] – Blessing Daniel

Gospel Artiste, Blessing Daniel delivers an exceptional and powerful recreation from the table of Piano Records Label, the epochal and classic worship song by Sinach – ‘Way Maker’.

Blessing Daniel successfully channels the original, with a vocal delivery that matches the dynamics of the song. For any artiste, creating a cover of ‘Way Maker’ is a tall order, given the huge, global success of the song and its ubiquity across Gospel scenes.

Jiji Mo Ji – Bayo Babajide Ft. Tenni

Jiji Mo Ji - Bayo Babajide Ft. Tenni

Pastor Bayo Babajide unlocks a breath of fresh air with the release of his new single titled – ‘Jiji Mo Ji’ featuring Tenni; a track from his soon-to-be-released album – Songs of all Times.

The new single – Jiji Mo Ji is a Contemporary folklore with a Jazz acoustic guitar intro and urban choir climax; produced by the legendary and consistent – Ambassador Wole Oni.

Here we are, in the middle of an era that affects the whole world, just when people are about to cast off restraint, Jiji Mo Ji appears at the centre stage of our daily experience to remind us of God’s protection, it is only expected that we give him praise, thanksgiving and gratitude for life.

Jiji Mo Ji simply means – ”I am awake”. Going further in the chorus, it says – ”I am awake, I have come to give you praise, I slept well and I woke up well, I have come to glorify you”.

It is important to deliberately be grateful for every phase of our lives, especially the gift of sleeping and waking up that money cannot buy.

In Pastor Bayo’s words – ”The motivation and aim is to share my father, Prophet D.O. Babajide’s songs with the new generation and relive it in the experience of the earlier generation. Thereby dispense God’s mind to the world, as these songs were all inspired by the Holy Spirit.”

About Bayo Babajide

Pastor Bayo Babajide is a seasoned instrumentalist, singer, music teacher and worship leader. He has directed church choirs for many years.

His love for and passion to create, teach and support excellent music/musicality began while he was a kid, who had the great privilege of watching his number one music mentor, his father, compose classic and timeless songs.

His father, Prophet David Olulana Babajide, composed and arranged many songs, divinely inspired and communicated to him by God in the dead of the night. (Prophet Babajide hardly slept throughout the night.)

Sometime in the 1960s, Baba came to the usual general morning devotion of Pastors and Student Evangelists studying under him and said “Let me teach you a song the Holy Spirit taught me through the night”, one of those songs is “Jiji Mo Ji”. Which later became a household song to start the day with every morning. This song later spread to homes and

schools to begin their days and was also adopted by many churches.

He was nicknamed – “The Singing-bird of Jesus,” and widely known for his sweet voice and a rich repertoire of gospel choruses and songs, Prophet Babajide was also a renowned multi-instrumentalist. He was particularly proficient in playing the trumpet, guitar and keyboard.

He was also an outstanding accordionist.

An author of many books, Prophet Babajide published two songbooks- a hymnbook with 85 Hymns (Orin Emi mimo), and a Chorus book with 183 choruses (Orin Idaraya). Most of these songs and choruses remain evergreen as contemporary classics spreading the gospel all over the world.

From the short history above, it is not surprising at all that his son would walk in his stead, particularly, musically.

Pastor Bayo did not stop at the rudimental knowledge of music which he obtained from his father, he graduated with a degree in Music from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He is a Music Consultant to several churches and also teaches several instruments to adults and children of all ages. He ministers in songs and with saxophone at several revivals and concerts. His passion is to create an environment for God’s presence through music.

He is currently the Music Director of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victory Temple in Bowie. Under his leadership, the Tribe of Judah has become a well-known choir in the community. In September 2011, they won the “How Sweet the Sound” award for the best small choir.

Also, in December 2011, the Tribe of Judah Choir was invited to sing at the White House for President Barrack Obama’s 2011 Christmas Tree Lighting event. In 2014, he led the Tribe of Judah Choir to minister at The Strathmore Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

He has begun an extremely laudable project, to relive some of the evergreen songs composed by his father by putting them together as a whole Album (Songs of All Times).

He has chosen – Jiji Mo Ji as the first single to arouse the appetite of those that have always loved these songs and those that will begin to appreciate them.

He is married and the marriage is blessed with children.
