Topic: Maturity [December 27, 2016]
“Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem…” (Daniel 5:3)
King Nebuchadnezzar gave King Belsahazzar who was his son a divine instruction that Belsahazzar should acknowledge the supremacy of God in his reign and that he should enforce and enact its practicability by virtue of his position as King. Unfortunately, the King dishonoured God.
On that fateful day, (in the above scripture) Belsahazzar invited about a thousand lords to his domain to a great feast and he commanded that the sacred golden and silver vessels that his father took out of the temple in Jerusalem should be used as wine glasses to serve his guests. Using vessels meant for the Lord to serve unbelievers was the height of immaturity.
Immaturity, if not carefully guided can spur you to take decisions that may cause you to take actions that can in turn make you curse God in His face. We must be careful in the way we handle the things of God and obey divine instructions. Immaturity did not exonerate them from the repercussions of their sins. The reign Belsahazzar was cut short because of his acts of immaturity in handling the things of God. One of the signs of maturity is having understanding. In Daniel 4:34, King Nebuchadnezzar came to himself, which means that he had began to understand what he did. Knowledge brings understanding and understanding activates promotion.
