Topic: Sensitivity And Giving [Wednesday April 12, 2017]
“Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” (1 Kings 17:9)
In 1 Kings 17:10, when Elijah got to Zarephath, he asked the widow to: “Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.” And in verse 11, as she was going, Elijah added, “Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.” In verse 12, the woman responded and said, and I paraphrase, “Man of God, what I have is very little. When I fix it, my son and I will eat it, and afterwards wait to die.”
The woman was not in a position to help Elijah. It was the other way round. That was why she gave that answer. However, in verse 15, she obeyed the man of God. If she had not obeyed Elijah bidding, you can imagine what would have happened to her and her son..
You have to be sensitive to the needs of others and to the needs of God’s house and meet them accordingly. Whenever there is a need in your life, God creates a need in His house, so that when you meet the need in His house, He would meet the need in your life. The need in Elijah’s life was not a real need. God created it to meet that of the widow. Thank God she was sensitive to it.
There was a seed in the woman’s hand that was looking for a good ground to be sown. Every seed must find good ground because if it is planted in a bad one, it will not grow, let alone become fruitful.
Today, as you meet the needs of others and of God’s house, God will smile on you.
Words of Wisdom: Whenever there is a need in your life, God creates a need in His house.
Confession/Prayer: LORD, create in me a heart sensitive to giving.
