Spit Fire On Deception ~ Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor

Topic: Spit Fire On Deception [Sunday April 2, 2017]

“And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.” (Judg 9:5)

Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal (Jerubbaal is Gideon’s other name) killed all seventy of his brothers on a single stone. Only Jotham, the youngest of them all, escaped. He slew them, spilled their blood, and sacrificed them all on one stone, one altar, in other to be king.

When Jotham saw what had happened, in Judg. 9:7, he climbed to the top of a mountain and began to speak: “If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you: But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.”(Judg 9:19-20)

The only thing that ends the spirit of deception is fire from God. If you read Judg. 9:22, you would notice that Abimelech reigned for three years, and in those years, everything was good. That is the spirit of deception. He thought he had gotten away with it. He was now the king. And everybody was bowing down to him and saying, “O king live forever.”

Most times, it takes years for evil people to receive their reward. So unwise people look at and envy them. You must not be drawn into evil because the wicked seems to be doing well. As long as God remains a righteous God, no evil under the sun will go unpunished.

Words of Wisdom: No evil will go unpunished.

Confession/Prayer: My enemy, you will not be able to kill me. O God of vengeance, fight my unseen enemy. Pay back my enemies in their own coins.
