Wisdom For The Day Devotional 10 October 2023 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – You Need The Input Of Other People
TOPIC: You Need The Input Of Other People (TREM Devotional 10 October 2023)
“This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.” Acts 18:24 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
According to our text, Apollos was eloquent. In other words, he was a great preacher. He has oratory power and was charismatic in his speech. And not only that, the bible said that he was mighty in the scriptures. When the bible says that he was mighty, you will expect that he should know everything. But that wasn’t the case. He can quote a lot of scriptures but when it comes to application, he may not be able to apply it. There are people like that today. They can quote a lot of scriptures, but when it comes to application, they may not have the wherewithal to apply the scriptures to the level that the people will understand.
Apollos was diligent and fervent in the things of the Kingdom. But he knew only the Baptism of John. This shows that his knowledge was limited and yet, he was mighty in the scriptures. He was very eloquent, teaching and conducting a lot of things. Probably he had a large followership. But he knew only the baptism of John. That was all he knew. But God brought him in contact with two people who invested in his life and helped him to become a better preacher of the gospel.
“And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he has come, helped them much which had believed through grace:” (Acts 18:26-27 KJV)
Aquila and Priscilla were disciples of Paul and they had greater insight into the message of Grace Apollo. There are people that God had planted in your pathway who have deeper insight than you have. Glean from them. You will become better in whatever you are involved in if you are open learn from others
