“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)

Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until He gives them power, but Peter got tired of waiting, told the other disciples that he was going back to fishing, and convinced six of them to go with him (John 21:3). In other words, seven out of the remaining eleven disciples went astray. Do you see the negative influence there? What if the power came while they were away?

When they went back to their fishing business, the Bible says they caught nothing that night. The expert fisherman and business magnate caught nothing. Nevertheless, Jesus later showed up, called out to them, and asked whether they caught any fish. When they said they didn’t, He asked them to cast their net to the right side of their boat. They caught more fish than they could carry. Then they realised that Jesus was the one present there with them.

By this time they got back to shore, Jesus had already caught the fish they failed to catch all night and had made breakfast ready for them. Could you imagine how miserable their lives would have been if they had continued to fish without catching anything and if Jesus had not showed up? That is how it is for many Christians. God may say to them, “Stay in the church, work in my vineyard, and keep your fire burning nonstop on my altar until I come and help you.” But they won’t listen and they end up failing.
