Topic: A New Beginning (I)

Date: Saturday, January 1, 2022 (New Year Day)

Read: Deuteronomy 28 : 1-14

MEMORISE: If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures (Job 36:11).

EXPOSITION

Each day, week, month or year, marks a new beginning as today marks, the New Year Day. Each of them has the dawn and dusk. This start a thing can tell on how successful the end will be. When a new day breaks, the major factor that must be considered as a Christian is God. When you begin anything with God, you will have great success at the end. There are two key factors that matter, if you must get God involved in the journey of your life on a day-to-day basis. These factors are non negotiable, easy, and fruitful. They are Obedience and Service.

Obedience: If they obey (Job 36:11). The if, here, carries the idea of condition. He who obeys gets the reward. Doing otherwise is counterproductive. Obedience is the key. It simply poses the act of hearing. or accepting carefully a direction or an instruction from a higher authority. To obey God is to trust, to have confidence, to submit, to follow God through, either a direct order, or an indirect order from Him. As children of God, we need to seek God’s consent in all we do. His direction must be our desire, even when they seem inconvenient, or uncomfortable.

No obedient act will go without a reward before God. This, we can see in Abraham’s relationship with God. “And through your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice” Gen 22: 18. Abraham brought blessings and an everlasting covenant upon Himself and his descendants, just through the act of obedience to God. What have you brought to your family? Blessing through obedience, or curse through disobedience?

For every child of God, obedience is a command (Jn. 14:15). To capture its indispensability, Jesus both preached and practised obedience. Of course, He learned obedience by the things which He suffered (Heb. 5:8). Do you want to start and end well? Obedience must be your watchword. Obedience brings blessings, promotion, breakthrough and every other good and perfect gift from above to the obedient. Yours is next, as you obey, from now on.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, give me the Spirit of obedience unto you and let it control me all days of my life.

2. O Lord, let our youths know you and obey you in all areas of their lives.

3. Father, restore obedient spirit to Your Church.
