Topic: Distraction, An Enemy Of Distinction
Date: Thursday, October 28, 2021.
Read: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
MEMORISE:
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (1 Cor.9:27)
EXPOSITION
There is a popular Yoruba saying that translates, “He who is being watched does not look about!” This means that one needs total concentration when it really matters. In the field event of 100m, six athletes usually file on the marks. Each athlete, apart from having speed, skill and energy to compete, also needs total concentration to win. We always have the spectators either hailing, or throwing jibes and boos at relationship. Should the one leading the race allow fans he/she risks losing concentration to finishing on high! Even if the one coming last continues to receive boos, he can still bring out something of the competition, provided he does not listen to these distractive elements!
You are on a mission for God. Satanic agents are all over every place, and on assignment-causing distractions through side attractions. Gehazi, a protege concentrate fully. Naaman’s gifts and jettisoned the prospect of a powerful prophetic ministry. He was disastrously distracted (2 Kgs.5v20ff)!
Beloved, steadfasty look unto Jesus, the Author, Sustainer and Finisher of our faith (Heb.12:2). Just too many things are capable of distracting you from focusing on the race-successes, trials, temporary failure, etc. Distraction disturbs and disrupts distinction. Crowns are waiting up there for the disrupts saints who refused to be distracted. The devil can bring afflictions and sufferings to be distract you. Do not be moved. Remain focused and unshakable. Award of excellence and crowning await you in heaven, if you keep on keeping one. Learn from Paul (2 Tim.1:12).
PRAYER POINTS:
1. I refuse to be distracted in the Christian race, in Jesus name.
2. I understand that the devil works round the clock to make me lose focus so he can get hold of me. Lord Jesus, help me out, I must not be his victim.
3. Pray for student on campuses to be delivered from agents of distraction from their academic and spiritual purposes on being on the campus.
