Read: Genesis 2:21-25

Genesis 2:21-25  And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

MEMORISE:

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24)

EXPOSITION

Yesterday and the day before, we examined some myths and facts about marriage. They may not be exhaustive, but we should consider the understanding very necessary for better marriage relationship. People who live by the myths never experience the joy, happiness and blissfulness that God intends for marriage. It must be said that Satan is not favourably disposed to marriage in God’s own way. Right from the beginning, he had been involved in ruining the institution (Gen. 3:2ff).

There is no carnally minded individual who can fulfil the demands of the Spirit of God. The carnality in man puts him at variance with the Spirit of the holy God. God has an ordained model that every marriage should follow. The prototype is clearly and factually expressed in God’s Word. It is not a humanly fathomable institution. It is not institutionalised based on the secular wisdom, knowledge, or philosophy.

A writer once said, “The fact that marriage is a school which awards its certificate before the couple’s actual marital experience should make every stakeholder very serious about it.” Is there any school or institution on earth that awards certificates before meeting all the requirements for graduation? No, not one! Therefore, if you are privileged to be in the institution, you must act within the ambit of its divinely programmed regulations.

Nowadays, adultery and fornication spread like wild harmattan fire. It is sad that some have made it a ‘norm’ that married women should have “supportive” men outside the home. It has become “normal” for some men to date other women apart from their wives at home. The Word of God is against this act, and you must not be involved in it. Even if virginity and chastity are no longer popular, youths in Christ must guard theirs jealously. In the generation of Lot where all sexually motivated sins became the order of the day, Lot’s girls were still found chaste.

Potiphar’s whore, called wife, tried seducing Joseph, but the latter declined, damning the consequences. Some think it is okay for them to be sleeping with their bosses or masters’ wives, since it is the latter that want it!

PRAYER POINTS

1. I shall never support or practise any form of marriage-related immorality, in Jesus’ name.

2. My life and home shall never glorify immorality, in Jesus’ name.

3. Lord, save our generation from all abnormalities that have become ‘normal’ in marriage.
