Read: Proverbs 28:20-22

Proverbs 28:20-22 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.
He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

MEMORISE:
A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished (Proverbs 28:20)

EXPOSITION
Having known what financial independence is, and how important it is in the life of every believer, we need to discuss other biblical keys to launch us into the ocean of financial breakthrough. The second key is to do away with the get-rich-quick syndrome. In Nigeria, for instance, financial fraud has been popularly code-named ‘419’. The people who practise it study people’s attitudes to money. If they know that you have the penchant for getting rich quick, you are a prospective prey, because they can successfully entangle and dupe you. You might not be able to escape financial malady, if you don’t overcome this evil tendency (Prov. 13:11; 20:21; 28:22). Remember the ‘MMM’ palaver and other that sent many into the dungeons of penury. Different temptations and snares that make one fall from grace come the ways of those with uncontrollable desires to get rich quickly (1 Tim. 6:9-10).

Someone had opined that, if you want to run with God, your running must not be faster than that of snail. He is just trying to say that walking with God means that you are ready to walk at His pace. Why running faster than the One you would meet where you are going, only to discover that you have to wait for Him before doing what you are ran there for? Let your desire to get rich in life be slow and steady. Avoid undue eagerness to get money or wealth at all cost; learn to exercise patience. God has plan for your life (Jer. 29:11).

Another strong key to financial independence is to avoid show off. This is a poverty mentality. If you are a secure person, in term of finance, you don’t need to impress anybody with what you have. This is what someone jokingly terms ‘Artificial bigmanism,’ and is clearly captured in Proverbs 13:7a. Why living to impress others? Truly wealthy people don’t have problem on how to appear before other, whether they would be accepted or not; they are secure within themselves. Only the poor kill themselves on how to acceptably impress others. Avoid this mentality; stop wasting your resources on liabilities.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to live my life above the get-rich-quick mentality.
2. Lord, give me the ability to live above insecurity in financial matters.
3. Lord, help our young people to conquer the spirit of greed and get-rich-quick in life.
