DCLM Daily Manna 3 January 2024 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Gold Standard Of Prophecy

TOPIC: The Gold Standard Of Prophecy (DCLM Daily Manna 3 January 2024)

KEY VERSE: “The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken” (Deuteronomy 18:15).

TEXT: Deuteronomy 18:14-22 (KJV)

14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

16 According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

17 And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?

22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

MESSAGE:

Having foreknowledge of the future emergence of false prophets on Israel’s religious landscape, the omniscient God gave Moses what would be the gold standard for all prophets and prophecies. Moses was a revered prophet in Israel, no doubt, but God promised another “Prophet”, One who, by divine inspiration in Acts 3:20-22, would later be confirmed as this gold standard, and greater than Moses. Whereas Moses was a mediator of the old covenant with all its flaws, Jesus Christ became “the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”

It is common, at this dawn of a New Year, to read about prophecies in the media, ranging from the mundane to the incredibly outrageous. The tone and content of some of the “prophecies” clearly convey their intent to give media visibility to the “prophet” and to win him some space in the national consciousness. For the most part, those prophecies ring hollow and no one seems to care when, as often happens, the prediction fails to be fulfilled. God cares, though. He cared enough to punish Hananiah whose false prophecy gave false hope to a rebellious nation; he died within a year (Jeremiah 28). Purveyors and purchasers of fake prophecies should beware!

Jesus Christ is God’s Word personified. His “more sure word of prophecy” promises eternal life and earthly fulfilment to all who hear and obey Him. Christ speaks of assured forgiveness to the repentant and spiritual refreshing to those who believe. His words calm the raging storms of human calamity and distress.

Come to Jesus today with your burdens and sorrows; and you will find in Him a faithful Companion through all the challenges you will ever face.
