Dunamis Seeds Of Destiny 29 March 2024 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche: Penalty Paid At Calvary

TOPIC: Penalty Paid At Calvary (Seeds Of Destiny 29 March 2024)

SCRIPTURE: Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The penalty for your sin has been paid on the Cross of Calvary so you can live in the righteousness of God.

MESSAGE:

Today is Good Friday. It marks the anniversary of the Death of Jesus Christ which is God’s sacrifice to liberate mankind from the bondage of sin (John 3:16).

The death of Christ on the Cross of Calvary was a sacrificial death that liberated humanity from the bondage of the devil and sin. It is the peak of God’s sacrifice for humanity.
In our study today, we shall highlight what happened at the Cross of Calvary.

Now, what exactly happened at the Cross of Calvary? What did the Cross of Calvary bring to us?

  1. God laid on Jesus the iniquity of the world.
On the Cross of Calvary, God laid on Jesus Christ the iniquity of the whole world. This means, your sins and my sins were laid on Jesus Christ on the Cross.

In John 1:29, when John saw Jesus coming, he said:
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Similarly, Isaiah 53:4-6 says:
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

  1. The Father looked away from the Son once the Son had become united with the sins of the world.
The Father looked away and became separated from the Son once the Son became united with the sins of the world.

That was why Jesus cried in Matthew 27:45-46: Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

This was because Jesus had been made sin, and Habakkuk 1:13 reveals that God is too pure to behold sin or iniquity:
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity…
So, when Jesus was made sin, the Father hid His Face; He looked away. That was the first time from dateless eternity past that the Son and the Father were separated because of the iniquity of man.

Beloved, you must understand that the penalty for your sin has been paid on the Cross of Calvary so you can live in the righteousness of God. Therefore, avoid the way of sin and live for God in holiness and righteousness.

REMEMBER THIS: The penalty for your sin has been paid on the Cross so you can live in the righteousness of God.
