Topic: Look For That Man You Can Depend On
Date: Friday, October 15, 2021 [International Day of the Rural Women]
Read: Genesis 2:21-24
Genesis 2:21-24 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
MEMORISE:
Then the rib which the Lord God has taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man (Genesis 2:22)
EXPOSITION
Regardless of the cry of the female liberation movement/enthusiasts renting the air, it is undeniable that women are weaker vessels in relation to man. It is not a coincidence but providence to come up with this kind of message on this day, which is International Day of the Rural Women.
In creation, God removed a rib from the side of the deeply sleeping man, and with it, formed the woman. Let us look at it this way. Humanly speaking, comparing the whole man made from the scratch, from the dust with the woman made from just a rib of the man, in terms of strength, might not be too reasonable. The process of ‘expansion’ of the rib bone, humanly speaking, would have ordinarily made the resultant creature, the woman, weaker than the man. No wonder the woman is termed the weaker vessel (1 Peter 3:7).
Being weaker in nature implies that the wife would have to lean on the man’s (husband’s) shoulder. Moreover, it has become that the wife’s desire shall be toward her own husband who shall, in turn, rule over her (3:16). The implication is that every sister needs to look for that only God-ordained man on whom she can depend, God’s own way.
It isn’t going to be easy getting that man, however. The sister needs God’s grace and wisdom to discern the brother in question out of the millions in the world. There is therefore the need to align with Christ through conversion, so that His Holy Spirit can take the lead in the right direction (cf. Rom. 8:14). Don’t make the choice, or go the road, your way; it is dangerous out there, alone (cf. Prov. 16:25).
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, help me not to misfire in the choices I must keep making in life.
2. Pray for bachelors/spinsters in our churches, for the patience to wait on God for His very best for them in terms of marriage, home, and their futures.
3. Pray that God should mercifully and graciously help Christian bachelor’s/spinsters who are already in wrong, godless dating/courtships.
