Text: 1 Kings 17:8-16

Key Verse: “And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah” – (1 Kings 17:16).

MESSAGE:

We live in a world where the race for what to eat is now unbecoming. Some people have gone the extra mile to do some dangerous things in order to keep soul, spirit and body together and have soon forgotten that there is One who created time and season and even in the season of famine, makes provision.

The case of this woman is the same with some today except for a difference. The widow of Zarephath came in contact with the national prophet, Elijah. He met her preparing to die because she and her son were ready to eat their last meal and wait for death, there was since no hope of another food. The prophet demanded that she prepare his food first and that singular response of giving and kindness resulted in a season-long divine provision for herself and her family.

The key for your unfailing cruse is your unceasing giving even in times of famine. This is what many people are not willing to hear at all and that’s because they don’t understand the mystery of giving. In this life, there are people who have done very little bit of kindness and have received great amounts of blessing and reward for that seemingly little act. Learn to give, make it part of your life and don’t run away from people who always come to you for help. This is because “…It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35b). Give today and you’ll see your cruse getting wider and deeper. Do something different from the general norm and you’ll get a blessing greater than the general norm.

SCRIPTURE: A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. – Proverbs 18:16

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your gift is key to your lift; your potential is your access to your possibilities.

From the above passage, we can see that a man’s gift is his launching pad and propeller to his greatness in life. That is to say, your gift does not only make room for you; it also has the capacity to catapult you from nothingness to prominence in life.

This means, your gift is key to your lift; your gift is your vehicle to your destiny; and your potential is your access to your possibilities.

Now, our talents or gifts are not at equal level. So, do not allow anyone’s feeling of intimidation and insecurity thwart your capacity to manifest your gifts.

The truth is, by the time you arrive eternity, God will ask you, “The potentials that I bypassed several people to endow you with, how did you use them? Did you leave them redundant? Did you use them to gain popularity for yourself? Or you used the gifts to expand the Kingdom of God and impact humanity?”

Beloved, you cannot hoard your gifts and reach your destiny; you cannot hoard what you can do and become what you are meant to become in life. Impossible!

I prophesy to you, as you determine to maximally deploy your gift(s), you shall experience a lift to another level in life and destiny in Jesus’ Name.

REMEMBER THIS: Your gift is key to your lift; your potential is your access to your possibilities.

MESSAGE

Sun Tzu – a Chinese war strategist (545-470BC) remarked on what measures to adopt in fighting a hundred wars in life without losing any in his popular maxim which says “know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster”.

There is a resounding truth in the view expressed by this warlord. For the Christian believer who is actively engaged in the battle of life, he should understand himself and his relationship with Christ. He should also know the enemy and his antics so as to properly control and neutralise every offensive intended to be launched by him.

The passage reminds us of the need to “awake out of sleep”. Of course, giants are as weak as dead dogs when they are asleep. Spiritual and physical alertness are required if we are to continue to win in the battle of life. Spiritual encumbrances referred to as works of darkness, when allowed by the believer, open doors for terrible defeats.

We must ensure that such avenues of defeat are permanently closed. “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light”. We must allow Christ to be our guide as we follow His footsteps. Walking in the light and being clothed with the armour of light is only possible through a closer and intimate walk with Christ. This level of spiritual attainment and fellowship is only possible for genuinely saved souls. Therefore, to be a partaker of this, as a sinner, let Jesus come into your heart and remain undisturbed!

Any sin you pamper can tamper with your destiny; the compromise you nurture today can puncture your future tomorrow.

SCRIPTURE: “Now therefore fear the lord and serve him in Sincerity, and in truth, put away the strange gods that your father served at the other side, and in Egypt, and served ye the Lord.” – Joshua 24:14

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Any sin you pamper can tamper with your destiny; the compromise you nurture today can puncture your future tomorrow.

There are things that tend to assume the place of God in one’s life done consistently or given undue attention; they are referred to as ‘other gods’ or idols. The Scripture makes it clear that you cannot serve God and other gods (idols) (Matthew 6:24).

Since no one can serve God and the other gods, what do you do to the other gods? Put them away.

To put away other gods implies the elimination of anything in your life that has the tendency of assuming the position of God.

Anything that occupies the place of God in your life is a candidate for death. Never pamper sin in your life; any sin you pamper can tamper with your destiny; any sinful habit you tolerate can terminate you.

Beloved, what is that negative lifestyle or sin that is contending for the place of God in your life? It could be the sin or god of alcohol and tobacco, the god of immorality and seduction, the god of bitterness and hatred, the god of jealousy, malice and envy, the god of lying, deception and cheating etc.

The truth is, any sin you trivialize today can truncate your destiny tomorrow. The compromise you nurture today can puncture your future.

So, kill that god before it kills you; kill that sin before it kills you; stop that sin before it stops you from fulfilling your destiny. The god of sin shall never assume dominion over your life in Jesus’ Name.

REMEMBER THIS: Any sin you pamper can tamper with your destiny; the compromise you nurture today can puncture your future tomorrow.

ASSIGNMENT (S):

Consciously put away anything or anybody that seems to constitute a god in your life.
Never negotiate or explain sin away; flee in a hurry.
Give God His place in your life today by making Him the number one priority of your life and existence.

Key Verse: “Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach. Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest” – (Lamentations 5:1,5).

MESSAGE:

When Karl Marx, a German philosopher and economist, said that “Religion is the opium of the people”, he may be referring to people who had been abandoned by their governments but see religion as a source of succour. Rather than look to government for even the minutest basic things of life as water, healthcare, enabling environment for entrepreneurial business to thrive, citizens depend on God. Every day, prayers ascend to heaven, as people lament to the Almighty for mercy.

It was a period of distress in Israel. The opening word “Remember” is used as a plea to God, not that God forgets. His children plead to Him to remember and to enact his promises to deliver them from their dire circumstances. In their captivity, the people were helpless as orphans and widows.

After the destruction of Jerusalem, the poorest of the land were left by the Babylonians. The picture here may be that these poor Israelites, who were left in the land, had to buy water and wood which were formerly theirs. They were now strangers and lived as forced slaves in their own land as well as abroad. They were humiliated.

There was a time when Christians were a reference point in our society. They were sought after in many companies because of their aura that eschewed any form of sin. They added value to organisation where they worked. But gradually, because of compromise, they lost the privilege and with the passage of time, they became worldly and hypocritical. But whatever is the case, our God is always ready to forgive. We must return to Calvary.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: He who does not realise the source of his problem is likely to remain in perpetual servitude.
